Legislative Committee

CWL’s Legislative Committee is the cornerstone of the organization’s legislative priorities and advocacy efforts. The Legislative Committee with the approval of the Board of Governors has compiled a member-written-and-approved priority list comprised of statements that represent CWL’s positions and issues over which the state Legislature, state agencies and federal government have power.

The CWL Legislative Priorities are:
  • Reproductive Justice (choice, maternity care, access and privacy);
  • Violence Against Women and Children (human trafficking, domestic violence, gun violence and sex crimes);
  • Human Rights and Equality;
  • Court Funding/Access to Justice Issues (which disproportionately affect women); and
  • Economics.
CWL's legislative committee, working in conjunction with CWL's affiliates, monitors proposed bills at the state and federal levels, evaluates their significance and relevance to CWL's mission, and recommends whether CWL should support or oppose these measures. The Board of Governors then votes on the committee’s recommendations for CWL action.
