 As we enter September, I find myself reflecting on the incredible work California Women Lawyers continues to do to advance women in the legal profession and in society. This year has reminded me that our strength as an organization is rooted not simply in the programs we offer, but in the relationships we build, the doors we open, and our willingness to advocate for one another.
September is also a season of transition. Summer gives way to fall, courts and workplaces return to their familiar rhythms, and many of us begin looking toward the final months of the year. It is a fitting time to consider where we have been, what we have accomplished, and most importantly, where we are going.
Throughout this year, CWL has remained committed to creating opportunities for connection, professional development, leadership, and advocacy. We have celebrated the accomplishments of women throughout California’s legal community, strengthened relationships with our affiliates, and continued the important work of ensuring that women have a meaningful voice at every level of our profession.
Next month, we will have a special opportunity to come together in person for one of CWL’s most anticipated traditions: theCalifornia Women Lawyers Annual Dinneron Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 6:00–8:30 p.m. at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse in San Diego.
I hope you will join us for an evening of celebration, inspiration, and connection as we recognize the extraordinary achievements of women throughout California’s legal community. The Annual Dinner is always more than an event on our calendar. It is a reminder of the power of community and what becomes possible when women support, encourage, mentor, sponsor, and advocate for one another.
As my second term as President moves toward its final months, I am especially grateful for the opportunity to gather with so many of you in San Diego. Serving this organization has reinforced something I have believed throughout my career: when women have a seat at the table, we must also make room for the women coming behind us.
There is still important work ahead. Women continue to pursue greater representation in leadership, on the bench, in equity partnerships, in public service, and throughout every sector of the legal profession. CWL will continue to be part of that work.
This September, I encourage each of us to reach back and bring another woman forward. Make the introduction. Recommend her for the opportunity. Encourage her to apply. Invite her into the room. Celebrate her accomplishments. Sometimes what changes the trajectory of a career is simply having someone say, “I see you, and I believe you belong here.”
