CWL Member Denine Guy Appointed to Santa Cruz Superior Court
CWL member Denine Guy was
appointed by Governor
Arnold Schwarzenegger to the Santa
Cruz County Superior Court bench,
filling the seat of deceased Judge
Kathleen Akao.
Judge Guy was a prosecutor in the
Monterey County District Attorney’s
office for 12 years, prosecuting
criminal cases and civil enforcement
actions in their Consumer and
Environmental Protection Unit. Prior
to that, she spent several years
practicing civil law in the area of
personal injury. Attorneys in both the
Santa Cruz County Public Defender
and District Attorney’s offices
applauded her appointment, praising
her charitable and public service work,
as well as the diversity she brings to
the court as a young woman from a
partially Hispanic family.
Judge Guy has been active in
professional and philanthropic
organizations throughout the state,
including the
California District
Attorney Association,
the Monterey County
Prosecutors
Association, Santa
Cruz Trial Lawyers
Association, and the
board of trustees of
her alma mater,
Monterey College of
Law. She is also a
member of CWL and
Women Lawyers of
Santa Cruz County.
Judge Guy states that she looks
forward not only to providing a fair
courtroom but also to continuing her
legal and charitable work in the
community.
