California Women Lawyers Weighs In on Special Measures that Effect Women
This November there are two initiatives on the ballot to add amendments to the California Constitution that would have direct negative impact on the civil rights of California citizens. California Women Lawyers urges you to VOTE NO on Proposition 8 and Proposition 4.
CWL endorses No on Prop 8, Equality For All
Prop 8 eiminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry and would re-write our California Constitution to provide that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California. Equal protection under the law is a founding principle of the United States of America. Prop 8 undermines that principle, and singles out a single group of people -- gays and lesbians -- for unequal treatment under the law. You can vote to protect the civil rights of Californians.

CWL endorses No on Prop 4, Campaign For Teen Safety.
Proposition 4 requires a waiting period and parental notification before termination of minor’s pregnancy and would re-write the California Constitution to mandate parental notification prior to a minor terminating a pregnancy. This threatens teen safety. Parents rightfully want to be involved in their teenagers' lives and we want our daughters to come to us if they become pregnant, and most do. But in the real world, laws like this don’t work. Prop 4 can't force teens to talk to their parents, but it may force them to do something desperate and dangerous.
California voters rejected a similar initiative twice before.
